Eyeboogie: Dancing With the Stars

(From left) Brandy Norwood, David Hasselhoff, Jennifer Grey, Kurt Warner, Margaret Cho, Kyle Massey, Audrina Patridge, Rick Fox, Florence Henderson, co-host Brooke Burke, Bristol Palin, and host Tom Bergeron. Missing are Michael Bolton and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.

ABC has announced they will premiere Dancing With the Stars Season 11 on September 20th.

I never saw Brandy as much of a dancer, or better yet, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.

But I am excited to see Jennifer Grey.

It's been quite a while since her days in Dirty Dancing!

A Truth About Women & Hip-Hop

We put you onto the BET special My Mic Sounds Nice: A Truth About Women & Hip-Hop, but just in case you missed it - we've got you covered. As a female (and somewhat of a rapper), I found this documentary to be very inspiring. The documentary features Eve, MC Lyte, Jean Grae, Eve, Yo Yo, Salt ‘N Pepa, Missy Elliott, Trina, Roxane Shante, Rah Digga, Lady Of Rage and more. It was interesting to hear the different views of one of the only female emcees in the game making moves right now (besides Trina), Nicki Minaj. Overall it was a great program. I don't know how much this will shift the position of females in Hip-Hop, but it was great. Happy watching.

eyeWatch: "Holding You Down"

Jazmine Sullivan is back in a major way! Her single "Holding You Down" (Goin' In Circles) has been a hit on the radio stations and the talent is making it known that her comeback is here. The official video for the single is here and it's hot. From the styling, the old school feel, to the hip-hop heavyweight cameos (Pepa & Dougie Fresh), it's great way to end the summer. It's evident that Jazmine can hold a note, and hold down her spot in the female R&B game. Just in case you weren't aware before, Missy has a superstar on her hands. Be sure to be on the edge of your seat for Jazmine's sophomore album, Love Me Back, hitting stores on October 5th. Happy watching!

Trend Check: Fall Essentials

The summer's coming to a close, and for me that is more than enough to put a smile on my face. I love Autumn...the temperature, the colors, and the fashion. Doesn't everything seem easy, breezy and laid back in the fall? That's because it is! You don't have to worry about being too hot or too cold and everything always seems just right. But don't step out this Fall season without your fashion essentials! Yes, the color scheme for the fall usually remains the same every year; the burgundy, beige, forest green, teal and golds. Yet and still, there are some fashion items that we all should have in our closets and if not, make it a priority to purchase them.

The Blazer/Cardigan - The "Cardi" has been a hit in the fashion world for the past couple of years. With the "boyfriend" fit for the ladies, to the different lengths and styles, it can be the perfect touch to a lackluster outfit. A blazer has the same effect, and will add a chic and stylish touch to almost any outfit. Same rule applies for the men, keep it simple & add that cardigan or blazer for the dapper touch! (Embellished pocket cardigan from jcrew.com)

The Dark Rinse Denim - No matter who you are, you must have a pair of basic jeans.
With the fall you can wear the lighter washes while it's still nice out, but make sure you have a dark rinse pair of denim jeans. Darker denims/jeggings add a richness to your outfit. (J. Crew Relaxed fit jeans $96, Skinny dark rinse - Old Navy $34.50)

The Boots - Whether they're canvas, leather, cowboy, or moto boots, you can't go wrong! Unless of course, you try to do too much with your outfit. Boots are a necessity for the all. Your color choice should be brown, black, or tan. These colors are neutral and will nicely compliment the rest of your wardrobe. (Men's canvas boots: Topshop.com $80, Wmns boots: Coach.com $348)

The Button Up - A classic shirt that can be dressed for a casual day - or a day at work. The button up comes in so many different textures, colors, length and detailing, that it's almost impossible for one not to find the right fit for themselves. Plaids, floral, stripes and solids are a thumbs up for the fall! (NY & Co Boyfriend Denim shirt $39.95, Flannel J. Crew Shirt)

The Coat (or jacket) - Named "The Ultimate Investment Piece" by TopShop.com, a coat/jacket for the fall is definitely worth the money and time it takes to find the right color, style and fit! Here's where you can have fun before you have to throw on the bulky winter coat. When purchasing a fall coat, look for something that you can dress up and dress down. Also, leave a little room for layering - especially since you're investing in a coat that may cost more than the other items in your wardrobe, you want to have the option to wear it in the years to come.

The best thing about these items is that they're simple, and can be mix-and-matched with a number of different items. One of the plus sides to the fall is that you can certainly layer your outfits. Where to shop? Top Shop, Old Navy, Gap, Macys, H&M, or even bargain stores such as Target or Sears. Remember to have fun with fall fashion, and don't hesitate to take some of your summer items and transition them to this season. For instance, take a look at Perla's Perfect Transition Shoes post. Happy shopping!

eyeInspire: Choose Dare

You have yet lived if you haven't played the classic game Truth or Dare. This game has gotten some into trouble, secrets revealed, and consequences for refusal to give in to peer pressure. Today, let's take this game and analyze the deeper meaning behind the choices we're given. You choose truth - you can be honest, but still have the opportunity to lie. You choose dare - you put your faith at jeopardy, BUT you still have the will to say no and take the consequence.

My message to you today is to CHOOSE DARE! Why? It's not a question of "Why", but more so, "Why not?" Sometimes we need to take a risk. A leap of faith is needed sometimes for us to realize that there are no boundaries to what we can do. If you live life afraid to step outside of the box, or to explore the world outside of your boundaries, you're really sheltering yourself from experience, knowledge and creativity. Why live inside of a box when there's so much room on the outside? It's a given that we'll sometimes be afraid and hesitant to take a chance on life, but then we risk the lesson and blessing behind it.

As in the game, we'll be faced with things that lead us into temptation, these aren't the things you should dare to do. Use your judgement and will wisely.
Remember, just like in the game, there are always consequences. If you don't dare to be whatever it is, or dare to do whatever there is to do, you'll have to live with the "what ifs". Today, DARE to be different. DARE to call that person and ask them out on a date. DARE to voice your opinion. DARE to go against the grain. DARE to stand up for what you believe in. DARE to face that problem that you were told you could never solve. eyeDare you...

Glee of the 2010 Emmy Awards

The 2010 Emmy Awards too place last night, and though Mad Men and Modern Family swept up awards, the most exciting part for me was the opening performance starring host, Jimmy Fallon, and the cast of GLEE (Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer and Amber Riley)! FASHiON FiGHT: Tinsley vs. Ciara

Tinsley Mortimer vs. Ciara

In the edition of FASHiON FiGHT we bring you two ladies looking Pretty in Pink! The reality star, Tinsley Mortimer, stepped out in a Versace print dress in NYC at the Operation Smile Annual Gala. Ciara rocked the one-shoulder frock at the wedding of Lala Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony in NYC.

Ciara played off the dress' black-and-white print accents in a pair of bold Versace platform pumps. The look was anything but demure for a wedding, but with many guests arriving in eye-catching leopard print ensembles, it seemed to be just right for the occasion.

High Society star Tinsley Mortimer wore the same dress to the same restaurant for the Operation Smile Annual Gala. She styled the frock with pink hoop earrings, white cut-out sandals and an oversized metallic clutch.

When the Leaves Turn...

We've all heard the saying "People are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime." I hold this saying to be true, and know that everyone that I have encountered in my life has been there for a specific purpose. My friends mean the world to me, and those who I no longer consider my "friends", once played a role in my life; whether it was major or minor. There are some that I predicted would be there for a reason and that's all, but the hardest ones to get over...the people that come into your life for a season.

Speaking in terms of a year, there are four seasons. The transition from each season can sometimes occur easily; while there are times that the changes bring us gradual complications or sometimes hit us full force without any notice. In terms of friendships, when the leaves turn, there's a chance that they may turn back - but there's also a possibility of them being replaced with new leaves.

When the leaves are turning - you know it. There's this gut feeling that you're stuck with, but you take it for what it is and live in denial while you still can. When the leaves have turned - you may be heartbroken and confused, or you won't be phased by it. Not because you don't care, but because you saw the changing phase right in front of your eyes and was well prepared to enter into a new season.

Sometimes we have to make special note of the people that are in our lives. Why are they there? Are you beating a dead horse trying to keep a friendship alive? Have you grown so much that you're in a better place and can no longer live in the same season as some of your other friends? There's nothing wrong with that, we just have to take life for what it is, appreciate the memories we had, and look forward to the ones that are to come.

When the leaves turn, make the best of it - and the friends that are there for the lifetime will be with you every step of the way.

eyeRemember: Aaliyah

Nine years have passed and today marks the anniversary of the passing of one of music's talents, Aaliyah Dana Haughton. She brought a refreshing sound to R&B, and was loved by the fellow artists in the game. She's given us great music since she was just a teenager, and I'm sure you would agree by me saying that she left us too soon. But everything happens for a reason, and though we won't be able to see what she would have blossomed into, she left us with a great lasting impression. Stay in peace Aaliyah, you are missed.

What's your favorite Aaliyah song?

The Testicle Tree

For a long time, I thought, "Naturally, all fruit taste sweet." That is, until I tried avocado. I wasn’t a big fan at first, but now I can’t get enough of it!

The green food originated in Central and South America, and is also popular in Mexico, and the Caribbean.

In fact, the Aztecs used to call it ahuacatl, which stands for the ‘testicle tree.

Since Spanish explorers could not pronounce that word, they changed it to aguacate, which is the source of my favorite dip, guacamole.

There are over 500 kinds of avocado, the Hass, being the most popular in the U.S., and the only one grown all year.

Avocados are the best fruit source of Vitamin E and carotenoid lutein, which is great for eye health.

They also help to prevent heart disease, onset of stroke or cancer (prostate, breast, and oral specifically), as well as aging. What’s more is that avocado helps with nutrient absorption so it makes a perfect fit with any dish, especially salad.

Need a great recipe or want to share yours?

eyePod: Power Remix

No one man should have all that POWER! The phrase may be true, but since Yeezy dropped the "Power Remix" with Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz, he's had people talking and the Internet buzzing. When the lyrics go hard, and the b-section on any track goes harder, it's easy to fall in love with a song.

Now everything I’m rhymin’ on cause a Ramadan
Been a don, prayin’ for the families lost in the storm
Bring our troops back from Iraq, keep our troops out of Iran
So the next couple bars, I’ma drop them in Islam
They say assalamu alaikum, say wa alaikum asalaam
That’s no Oscar Mayer bacon, you should run and tell your mom
Now the question is, how we gon’ stop the next Vietnam?
Keep Flex out of Korea, ’cause you know he drop bombs...

"I'm a Cash Cow...

...I'm bout to cash out". Words from Jay-Z over the Grammy family beat for Funk Flex on Hot 97. In this case I would assume that NIKE would be trying to profit off of that fact. The man has made millions off music, clothing, sneakers (remember the S dot Carters); all of which substantiates his hustlers ambition. But this ladies and gentlemen is a stretch. I can admit the sneakers are good money but 5 stacks for em - NOT I. I take issue with things like this: the theory that we as consumers will buy anything peddled to us by "icons", well I am here to stand up for all mankind and say that THIS MUST STOP. Sorry Jay, I ride with you through anything but this is not going down. How about we reconsider and take about $4900 off the tag and bring these back for Christmas. Fourth quarter will be yours homey.

If you're unaware of what's going on with these all black Nikes, Jay-Z has officially blasted Nike’s four day World Basketball Festival off with a bangin’ performance at Radio City Music Hall. He’s also stepping up for charity, with this special pack of five Jay-Z All Black Everything AF1s being auctioned right now on the ebay, with proceeds going to the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation. There’s a shoe for each of the five nations competing in the WBF throw-down, with each shoe featuring a different premium upper. The only other person in the world to own a pair of these black beauties will be Jay-Z himself. BFF! If you've got the pockets you can place your bids here (SF).

eyeInspire: Be Worry Free

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own." - Matthew 6:34 NET

Many of us go through life and our daily activities concerned, scared and worried about what will come of it. But why do we worry so much? If we trust and believe in God, what are we concerned for? He says that if we believe in Him, He will not leave or forsake us. It is hard to be worry free, especially when things always seem to go wrong, but if God takes care of the lowest form of creation, like the birds in the sky, why wouldn't He take care of His most highest creation, His sons and daughters?

If you have little faith and worry about how you will eat tomorrow - you won't be - for you are not trusting God. If you speak things into existence like "I'll never find a job" or "I'll never get approved for that loan", all you're doing is putting power into your tongue. Instead of speaking out our worries, speak the Word of God. God knows what we need before we know what we need. He hears our prayers, and will answer them according to His will and when He knows we need them answered most. Seek God before everything else and the things we once worried about will be given to us. Once you put God first, everything else will fall into place.

So once again, do not worry about tomorrow. Today has enough trouble of its own. Tomorrow isn't promised to anyone, so why worry about it? Whatever you need, ask God for it and leave it to rest. Worrying will not make you richer, healthier or happier. Let go and let God!

Poem: Crush on a Musician

It's self explanatory. Enjoy & Comment!

CRUSH ON A MUSICIAN
He writes.
He writes and he writes and he speaks into the microphone,
Allowing the emotions of his soul to be poured onto the stage filling it to capacity.
My body weakens when I see him doing his thing.
Not because of the fame…
But because of the passion in his eyes when he sees the crowd singing the words to his song.
He didn’t know they knew them the rhymes but they do.

At night he sits home and reminisces on the performance he just gave.
Amazed at himself with how far he’s come

He’s afraid to never feel that feeling again so the ambition swells a hole in his mind
Allowing for the creativity to flow through it freely.
This keeps success on the table and hits in his rhyme book.

I look at him in amazement
Because he does what he does and he does it better then most.
He chases success like it’s a presidential election and he’s got my vote.
I’m more than a fan, I’m honestly inspired by him-
His ambition is crazy and his talent unmatched by most.
And if ever he needs someone to help him do a sound check,
I’ll be there.

The Dropping of a Jewel

(AllHipHop News) Compton, California rap star Game took offense to Miami rapper Rick Ross' song "B.M.F. (Blowin Money Fast)" in the latest issue of Complex Magazine. In the interview, Game seems to take offense to Rick Ross' glamorization of Black Mafia Family gang leader Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory and Gangster Disciples' founder, Larry Hoover. While Game rarely hides his own affiliation with The Bloods street gang, he stated that he didn't want to lead his fans in the wrong direction. "All these people thinking they're gangsta. And after the Rick Ross song B.M.F. everybody thinking they're Big Meech again, Larry Hoover. Nobody really should wanna be that or aspire to be that 'cause you're gonna end up in a coffin," Game told Complex. "And trust me man, most of these rappers outside of me, 50 Cent and maybe Waka Flocka and a few others, have never felt bullets man, ain't never had a brush with actually having your life erased. So a lot of these rappers out here playing. That's just not the message I'm trying to send across no more."

I had to take a minute to take my hat off to the Game for dropping these words of wisdom, and I encourage anyone who shares his sentiments to let themselves be heard as well. I fully believe that there are better things to do then idolize or try to emulate doom. There is no future of believing that you can re-enact what Big Meech or Larry Hoover have been able to do with their lives.
Anyone I have ever met who has took a stab at trying has failed, and with that failure came the realization that it is senseless to try and persuade others to follow. A brush with death is a serious and eye-opening experience. Take it from me personally, and if by chance you won't take these words as fact, ask around and I'm sure you will come across someone wise enough to tell you the truth. There's an old saying that "everyone cannot dance to every song." With that being said, don't go trying to be something you are not. "We Can" is what the leader says, and you should follow; and not in the footsteps of those who may never see daylight again.

eyeApplaud: Usher's New Look

Much is made of the glitz and glamour that comes with celebrities, but there is a greater element than that which does not get publicized enough; the charitable deeds. So many of the fortunate do things for the less fortunate. I think the greatest attribute of a person is their caregiving. It's a duty of ours regardless of to what capacity you can accomplish.

With that being said, a big shout goes out to Usher; who was recently in Atlanta mentoring kids at Powered by Service day. He spoke on the importance of ambition and goal setting (reaching for the stars as some of us call it), and the desire to own instead of lease, or be leased. It can never be preached enough the importance of entrepreneurial objectives. That's what the world is about - ownership.
I won't get into the capitalistic ideals but, I just wanna impart on you that longevity comes from that exact foundation.

Ushers NEW LOOK Foundation is a proponent of those principles: A non-profit organization that encourages youth around the country to become corporate and community leaders.

You can hear more from Usher himself on his plight, and direction with the NEW LOOK Foundation in the interview he did with Good Day Atlanta:

eyeInspire: Choose Your Friends Wisely

“…Do not throw your pearls before swine.” - Matthew 7:6, NAS

Do you realize you have treasure on the inside of you? You could say that your pearls are what God has given you to be a blessing to the world around you—your gifts, talents and abilities. When you get around true friends, people who really believe in you, they won’t be jealous of your gifts. They won’t constantly question who you are. They won’t try to talk you out of your dreams. It will be just the opposite. They’ll help you polish your pearls, develop your pearls, enhance your pearls, and grow your pearls. In other words, they’ll give you ideas. They’ll connect you with people they know. They’ll help push you further along. If you stay around people who don’t value your gifts nor appreciate what you have to offer, that’s casting your pearls among swine.

Your inner circle, those who are closest to you, should be people who celebrate who you are; people who are happy when you succeed. They should be people who believe the very best in you. Remember, it’s not the quantity of friends that’s important, it’s the quality of friends. Choose your friends wisely so you can be all that God has called you to be.

Today you should thank God for the gifts, talents and abilities He has given you. Ask Him to help me you recognize the treasure within. Ask God to give you the wisdom to discern the right relationships He has ordained for you.

The Cold War of Power & Lies

New videos from Kanye, Eminem and Janelle Monae have dropped, and boy are they making a statement. Maco Brambilla, director of Kanye West's "Power" exclaimed in an interview with NY Mag’s Vulture, that this was a “video portrait”. It proves to be nothing less than that in it's 90 second course. It is art and definitely symbolic; a painting - and arguably, a masterpiece. Kanye's album is set to drop on October 12th. The official video for Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie" featuring Rihanna off of his album Recovery has dropped and it is a movie! It features actors Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan, who couldn't be a better fit for the storyline. Last but not least, Janelle Monae's video "Cold War" hit and is simple and full of emotion. She's a ball of energy and that is depicted in this video directed by Wendy Morgan. Her album The Archandroid is in stores now. Happy watching!

Kanye West - Power

“It starts with a very tight shot introducing him that’s kind of a reinvention of a neoclassical painting. It pulls back from the shot, without any cuts, and we reveal the video canvas, populated by all these characters who are depicted in various stages of undress and decadence. The iconography comes from Roman iconography, Renaissance iconography, and it connects to the sexuality of the music as well. As we reveal the setting for it, there’s a feeling of a moment of transition for him. A fall from grace, if you will. It visualizes power, and him as the icon as power, and then at the end of the piece it challenges the power that I set up at the beginning. It’s an elliptical piece of storytelling."

All EyEz on CLEF

Award-winning rapper Wyclef Jean has officially announced that he is running to be the President of Haiti.

It is no surprise that he's making this drastic political move; especially since the acclaimed artist has always shown love for his country.

When the earthquake rocked the island back in January 2010, Wyclef’s organization, the Yele Haiti Foundation, sent money and supplies to help the devastated population.

Wyclef has served as an ambassador since 2007, and meets all residency requirements to be considered for candidacy. He moved to New York as a young child, and later became member of the hip-hop group, The Fugees. He then went on to have a successful solo career as an artist and producer.

In preparation for the presidential election scheduled for November 28th, he will strongly address his hopes to serve as a neutral ally, and rebuild the city from the earthquake’s aftermath, improve education, security, jobs, and healthcare.

Love for your country can’t run deeper than that.

Do you feel the same?
