eyeDon't Get It: PETA Campaign, Save the Whales

So the new buzz is PETA's new billboard campaign in Florida. And it's definitely raising eyebrows and ire among women and health groups. A drawing on billboards in Jacksonville depicts an obese woman with the phrase, "Save The Whales, Lose The Blubber: Go Vegetarian."

In a press release, PETA stated: A new PETA billboard campaign that was just launched in Jacksonville reminds people who are struggling to lose weight -- and who want to have enough energy to chase a beach ball -- that going vegetarian can be an effective way to shed those extra pounds that keep them from looking good in a bikini. [....]
Anyone wishing to achieve a hot "beach bod" is reminded that studies show that vegetarians are, on average, about 10 to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters. [...]
"Trying to hide your thunder thighs and balloon belly is no day at the beach," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "PETA has a free 'Vegetarian Starter Kit' for people who want to lose pounds while eating as much as they like.

Well the last time I checked, you did not have to become a vegetarian or vegan in order to lose weight. Although some may be offended by the ad, we have to keep it positive and realize that that's just one opinion. I'm sure if Tyson poultry came out with an ad of an anorexic girl looking in a mirror saying "Save the model" that would also put the world in a frenzy. But, I'm sure they wouldn't do such a thing =)
I found these pictures a few days ago and thought what better time to share them than now. These pictures are from the "Love Your Body" Campaign by the Now Foundation. These were the winning ads for the campaign.

What do you think of the overall view of women of different shapes and sizes and how they are portrayed in the media?

  1. WOW. Ok Peta obviously loves animals more than they love HUMAN BEINGS. No Humane person would make a billboard insinuationg that fat people NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT!

How about a billboard stating that plus sized women should love who they are, love every curve because i know my "Not getting these thighs or this ass in a size 5 or 6" self loves every single part of me.

Why should women HIDE ANYTHING at the beach. As long as its appropriate (meaning you know you cant go showing your entire behind) then why hide it?

SMH and shame on PETA. They can get their point across alot more creative and less offenzive than this. They're turning into a terrorist group. Throwing paint on furst and slapping people with powder when they're leaving clubs because they want to wear leather.

They should be prosecuted for alot of their antics.

I definitely agree with the comment above! This is crazy! They have some nerve creating an ad like that, but people will do anything to get noticed. I think that you handled the article very nicely by spinning it the way you did. Love you bodies ladies no matter what size you are. We are all beautiful!
